JAMMU, Nov 16: Former J&K Health Minister and sitting Congress MP from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, Ch Lal Singh today described the statement of senior National Conference leader and younger brother of Dr Farooq Abdullah, Dr Sheikh Mushtafa Kamaal, as anti-national and demanded that he should be punished under law of the land.
Talking to media-persons here today, Ch Lal Singh took strong exception to the remarks of former State Health Minister and younger son of Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah and demanded that Government of India must take action against him. “There can not be any excuse by his elder brother (Dr Farooq Abdullah) or nephew, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Dr Kamaal’s anti-national remarks. His brother has stated in media-reports that Dr Kamaal is mentally unsound and has habit of issuing such statements some times. If he has some mental problem, it is the responsibility of his relatives- brothers, nephew and others to get him examined and provide treatment or send him to some asylum. The people won’t help him at all,’’ the Cong MP maintained.
Replying to a question, Ch Lal Singh said coalition should not be any compulsion while dealing with such elements speaking against the country. Dr Kamaal now claims that his statement was mis-represented and taken otherwise by media while the TV channels have shown his actual words aired in the media repeatedly. How he can deny that ? Are people listening his utterances against country are fools? The National Conference, which is alliance partner of Congress should also take disciplinary action against him, the MP said.
In response to another question, Lal Singh said Congress is much stronger in Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar which fall in his LS constituency. Unfortunately, no representation has been given to the legislators of this Chenab belt in the State Cabinet. This is great injustice to this area and resentment of the MLAs and boycotting a recent PCC members meeting by them was a justified step. He strongly demanded that this area be given representation and Congress should get its due share.
The Congress MP further disclosed that a grand ‘Shahidi Divas’ annual function is being organized at Ram Lila Ground, Kathua tomorrow. Union Health Minister and senior All India Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad will be the chief guest. Nearly 100 families of the martyrs from the district will be honoured on this occasion. It will be 11th function of this type at Kathua after Kargil war, he added.
