Punitive action taken against erring medical shops

Jammu, July 11: A team of Drug Control officers under the personal supervision of Deputy Controller Drugs, Lotika Khajuria conducted surprise checks of medical shops in the vicinity of Ramgarh and took punitive action against the erring stores.
M/s Samotra Medical Hall Ramgarh, M/s Health Care Medicate Ramgarh, M/s Pushp Gupta Medical Hall Ramgarh, M/s Maha Mritunjay Medicos  Ramgarh and M/s Sandeep Medicos Ramgarh   were inspected during the drive.
It was observed that by and large all the outlets were stalking medicines of lesser known brands. Some psychotropic drugs and preparations which fall under restricted category were being sold without maintaining proper sales record. The overall condition of the shops was unhygienic and insanitary. The shops have been served show cause notices under rule 66 of drugs and cosmetics act 1940, 1940 for explaining their positions with respect to observed contraventions.
Premises of M/s Pushp Gupta Medical Hall was sealed as the overall condition of the shop was such that it could not be permitted to carry out its operations in the larger public interest.
Later all the chemist shops were given a mass counselling for making necessary improvement in their existing infrastructures viz-a-vis storage conditions.
Some of the Chemist shops, which were being run without the services of approved Qualified Person, were impressed to take the services of additional qualified persons to ensure proper sale of drugs.
