KATHUA, Sept 10: The height of unlawful activity of Punjab Police was noticed today when three cops from neighboring State including a Sub Inspector forcibly entered into a residential house belonging to Rajesh Kumar at village Tafar Sangi in Kathua district in wee hours and started beating the family members.
The family members also retaliated and succeeded in catching hold of one of the cops and locked him inside a room. However, the other two cops fled from the spot.
The local residents informed Kathua police about the unfortunate incident. Later Punjab Police with Black Commando reached the village and took away their colleague and threatened the family members of dire consequences.
The J&K Police also reached the spot and discussed the issue with their counterparts from Punjab. Following the threat warning of Punjab Police and illegal entry in their house, the frightened family members reported the matter to SSP Kathua, Shivdeep Singh and demanded safety and security.
Rajesh Kumar whose family was beaten by Punjab Police personnel said that three cops entered his house in the early morning and started thrashing the family members without any reason. He said the family members locked one ASI in their room. The other two cops fled away leaving one mobile, one torch and one turban in the house. He said “I informed PCR Kathua and two police personnel from Police Post Nagri reached the spot. “Later I along with other family members reached at residence of SSP Kathuà to narrate whole episode to him’.’
SSP Kathua, Shivdev Singh said that the issue has been settled as it was outcome of a miscommunication. He said as the village is near the Punjab border and cops from neighbouring State mistakenly took it as the jurisdiction of Punjab. They had received information regarding the sale of illicit liquor in their area and hence they trooped in the house to conduct search.
But the issue was settled after the intervention of Kathua police as the whole matter was outcome of misconception and nothing else, he added.
