Punjab resident held for hammering statue of Mahatma Gandhi

JAMMU, Jan 30: On the day of martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi, Police here on Tuesday morning arrested a man for attempting to smash the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at busy Satwari Chowk area.
In a viral video the man was seen holding a hammer and hitting the statue of Gandhi repeatedly noting which locals of the area gathered at the spot.
After getting the information cops led by SHO Satwari, Inspector Sumit Sharma reached the spot and arrested the man who disclosed his identity as Sunny Azad, son of Balbir, resident of Gurdaspur (Punjab).
Sources informed that he had visited Jammu after paying obeisance at the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra.
Azad was objecting why the name of Lord Ram was written below the statue of Gandhi.
Police sources said that a case for Causing Damage to Public Property and other relevant sections has been registered against Azad.
