JAMMU, Apr 15: BJP spokesperson and former Deputy Mayor of Jammu, Advocate Purnima Sharma, has strongly urged the National Conference-led Government to prioritize the timely completion of major tourism projects in Jammu.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Purnima said that the Government’s statements on boosting religious tourism will remain hollow unless important projects on the ground are completed efficiently.
She pointed out that projects like the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex are facing delays.
Calling it a vital cultural site, she said, “This complex is part of Jammu’s identity and Dogra legacy. Its restoration is not just about tourism but about preserving our heritage.”
Purnima also raised concern over the slow pace of the River Tawi Front Development Project.
Referring to the recent Tawi Aarti held on its banks, she said the project holds great potential and needs urgent attention. “Tawi is the lifeline of Jammu. The government must expedite the riverfront work,” she said.
While welcoming the launch of the Gandola project in Jammu, she noted that it lacks adequate promotion and support infrastructure, which has kept tourist interest low.
Calling for a serious approach, Purnima asked the NC-led Government to deliver on its promises and ensure that Jammu’s tourism sector sees real progress.
BJP spokesperson Rajni Sethi also addressed the media and said it was a proud moment for Jammu when the Tawi Aarti was performed for the first time on Baisakhi.
She added that the tradition began under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and urged people to join the Aarti regularly.
Sethi credited the Modi government for major developments like the Jambu Zoo, Tirupati Balaji Temple at Sidhra, and top institutions like IIT, IIM, and AIIMS in Jammu.
She said Jammu is finally being treated fairly and gaining the recognition it deserves as the “City of Temples.”
