Putin signs law on toughens punishment for armed rebellion

MOSCOW, Dec 28: Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that toughens punishment up to life imprisonment for organising or participating in an armed insurrection that results in the death of a person or other serious consequences, the document posted on the government legal portal showed on Saturday.
According to the law, the organisation or leadership of an armed rebellion for the purpose of overthrowing or forcibly changing the constitutional order of Russia or violating its territorial integrity shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of 15 to 20 years. Participation in an armed rebellion for the same purposes is proposed to be punished by imprisonment for a term of 12 to 20 years.
Putin has also signed a law under which a foreigner can be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for aiding the enemy in activities against Russia’s security. (UNI)
