JAMMU, Mar 3: Government today admitted that it has failed to pay compensation to the tune of Rs 4259.92 lakh for the land/structures acquired for the NABARD schemes in Jammu province.
“Due to paucity of funds, the department could not earmark funds for payment of compensation of land / structures during the current financial year”, Minister of State for Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi said on behalf of R&B Minister in reply to the Calling Attention Notice of Congress MLA from Rambam, Ashok Kumar.
“The department is facing the difficulty on account of paucity of funds for maintenance, shifting of utilities, removal of bottlenecks in general and payment of compensation for land / structures in particular”, he further said, adding “the total requirement on account of payment of compensation for land/structures for NABARD schemes in Jammu province alone is of the order of Rs 4259.92 lakh”.
He, however, said that despite resource constraints, the department has released an amount of Rs 355.14 lakh for land/structure compensation for NABARD schemes in Ramban constituency.
“The Government is fully seized of the problem of the land owners but given the resource constraints and huge amount involved in land / structure compensation, the payments are staggered and released in a phased manner”, the Minister further said, adding “the department would project the demand for funds for these schemes, in particular, to Planning and Development Department for consideration as a special case”.
