PYC seeks 73rd, 74th amendments

KATHUA, Aug 11: Pradesh Youth Congress has demanded 73rd and 74th amendments in the Panchayati Raj Act in the State.
Addressing a press conference here, after submitting a memorandum to DC Kathua today, the State vice president of PYC and incharge Udhampur- Doda Lok Sabha constituency, Pranav Shagotra said that Panchayats can not be strengthened without making the proposed 73rd and 74th amendments in the Act. The Sarpanchs and Panchs be given powers so that democracy could percolate up to the grass root level.
The PYC leader said that it is the vision and resolve of All India general secretary Rahul Gandhi to ensure de-cetralization of powers and allow the democracy to flourish up to grass root level. In this regard, the PYC has launched a State wide campaign. The memoranda will be submitted to the Chief Minister through DCs and if the Government will ignore their demand, the Youth Congress workers will come out on the roads and streets.
Pankaj Basotra, PYC president for Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha also spoke on the occasion and reiterated his party’s resolve to go ahead with the campaign more strongly in coming days. Mr Basotra said lot of resentment was brewing among the Panchayat members over the delay being caused to provide them full powers.
Vinay Sharmam, LS vice president and youth leaders Ajatshatru, Paramjit Singh, Pankaj Sharma, Kewel Krishan and Rajiv Gupta were also present.
