Srinagar, Mar 18: Police today said to have solved Qazigund hit-and run-case in which traffic personnel was killed after he was hit by an unknown truck in the Bonigam area by arresting the truck driver involved in the crime.
A statement issued here by the police said that the Police Station Qazigund received information that SO Traffic Bonigam, ASI Mohd Shafi Bhat son of Mohd Ramzan Bhat resident of Nowgam Shangus Anantnag was hit by an unknown truck at Bonigam, resulting in his death on spot. The driver of the truck fled away from the spot along with the vehicle.
Acting promptly, police said, PS Qazigund constituted special teams to intercept the vehicle along with the accused driver. The team led by SHO Qazigund after strenuous efforts intercepted the involved vehicle (truck) bearing registration number JK22B-4365 along with the accused driver from Choimulla area of Anantnag. He has been identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat resident of Sangrama Sopore.
Police said that the truck driver has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle involved in the crime has also been seized.
A case FIR No. 51/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at PS Qazigund regarding the incident and further investigation of the case is in progress.
