Quake rocks Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Jan 27:
A moderate intensity quake, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, rocked Kashmir valley, including summer capital Srinagar in the wee hours, forcing people to rush out of their homes in panic.
A Met department spokesperson said that the tremor, which was felt at 0449 hrs, lasted a few seconds. The quake was epicentred somewhere in Hindukush mountains in Afghanistan. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.
People rushed out of their homes in panic following reports in local media quoting experts that a severe above 8 magnitude quake was due in the Himalayan region, including Jammu and Kashmir. (UNI)
