Racket of cash snatchers busted

JAMMU, Mar 7: Police today busted an inter-State racket of cash snatchers, which was involved in a series of incidents of cash snatching from outside the Banks especially in Jammu and Punjab.
Trikuta Nagar police today arrested kingpin of the racket identified as Rajiv Kumar son of Tulsi Dass, a resident of Civil Lines, Muradabad in Punjab. His two associates were absconding. They have been identified as Vijay Kumar and Santosh Kumar, residents of same area.
Police said the accused were involved in latest cash snatching incident outside the Punjab National Bank at Trikuta Nagar on March 5. They had snatched Rs 49,000 from a woman Pushpa Devi soon after she came out of the bank branch after withdrawing the cash.
Police have recovered Rs 31,000 of cash snatched by the accused from the possession of Rajiv Kumar.
Police said one of the accused used to stay inside the bank watching the people withdrawing cash while two others stood outside the bank on bike. After getting a signal from the accused inside the bank, two others would snatch the cash and flee on a motor-cycle. The other accused would then leave the spot in a scooter.
Police have seized both motor cycle (bearing No. 8301 PB26E) and scooter (No. 4707 JK02M) from the possession of accused.
Police said the accused had snatched Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 1.7 lakh in two separate cases at Bari Brahmana and Rs 2.5 lakh at Shastri Nagar. They were also involved in the incidents of cash snatching at Malerkotla and Khanna in Punjab.
Police parties headed by SHO Trikuta Nagar Inspector Chanchal Singh worked out the case under the supervision of SDPO Mohammad Rafiq.
A case against the accused has been registered under Section 382 RPC in FIR No. 57/2014 at Trikuta Nagar police station.
