Radhika, Taniya mesmerize audience

JAMMU, Apr 16: Five-day Baisakhi Mela organized jointly by Tourism Department and Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya Bhopal concluded today at Mubarak Mandi.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu was the chief guest on the concluded day of five-day Baisakhi Festival.
Radhika Chopra and Taniya Gupta mesmerized the Jammuites with their melodious voices. The audience was spell bound by the great performances of these artists, who are the daughters of the soil.
Scintillating performance by Radhika Chopra kept the audience spell bound. She sang Dogri, Punjabi songs and the famous song sung by her ‘Chithi Lai Aye Janye Mera Dil Janyia’ was applauded by the large gathering.
She also sang many Dogri songs on the request of audience. Radhika Chopra is a renowned artist of Jammu who has performed outside India as well.
Taniya Gupta another great performer of Jammu, who also performed at the Asian Game at Beijing, China was another star of the concluding day of Baisakhi Festival. She sang songs of various moods including Sufiana Kalam which was like by one and all. She also sang gazals which were like by the large present audience at Mubarak Mandi.
Earlier, the dancers of Manipur, Assam and Nagaland presented folk dances of their State. The RasLeela by the Manipur artists in their colourful attire was another source of attractions.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner said these kinds of fairs and festivals showcase our rich cultural heritage which is very important to attract the tourists from other States. He said that this provide a chance to the tourists to have a glance of state culture.
Director Tourism Soujanya Sharma gave the brief about the Baisakhi Festival and main motive behind organizing these kinds of festivals. He said that the efforts are on to make these festivals on the national level on the lines of ‘Pushkar Mela’ and ‘Suraj Kund Mela’.

Among others, Secretary Tourism Zaffar Ahmed Bhat, Joint Director Tourism, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director Tourism Publicity Kewal Bhagat, besides other senior officers of Tourism Department were also present on the occasion.
