REASI, May 8: 13 pilgrims on recreational activity were rescued when a raft carrying them turned turtle in Chenab river, here today.
The incident took place when the raft hit a pillar of bridge in Baradari area and turned turtle. All the persons on board, including five women, fell into the river but were timely rescued.
Police said that all the persons were wearing life jackets and a rescue operation was immediately launched by the rafting operators and hence there was no loss of life or any tragedy.

According to the reports, 24 people, after a visit to the cave shrine of Shiv Khori, were on the river in two rafts enjoying the recreational activity when they hit the bridge in Baradari area.
“Mata Vaishno Devi and Lord Shiva saved us. It took over half an hour to rescue us. We went into the water and the strong current took us a long distance, but we held each other’s hand and stayed together,” said the pilgrims.
It may be recalled that a similar incident had taken place a few years back following which river rafting in Chenab was temporarily suspended.
