Rahul meets Gujarat Cong members; discusses strategy on coming assembly elections

NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today held a meeting with members of the Gujarat PCC core committee and held discussions on the political scene and the party’s strategy for the coming assembly elections in the State.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Gandhi said, “Had a productive meeting with the Gujarat PCC Core Committee. Discussed political issues and the upcoming elections in the state.”

Among those who were present at the meeting were senior Congress leaders from Gujarat Ahmed Patel, Madhusudan Mistry, Shankar Sinh Vaghela, Bharat Singh Solanki, Shakti Sinh Gohil and Himmat Singh.

The marathon meeting, in which  newly appointed secretaries incharge for Gujarat were also present, discussed the strategy of the party for the forthcoming elections in the state.

The sources said at the meeting, the Congress vice-president urged the leaders from the state to unitedly fight the poll to ensure the party’s win. It was decided that the party would soon commence the process of selection of candidates for the assembly elections.

It was also decided that the campaign strategy of the party for the polls would be drawn up soon. Ahead of the Assembly elections to the state, scheduled by the end of the year, Congress president Sonia Gandhi recently revamped the team of secretaries for the state.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was appointed as general secretary in-charge for Gujarat, replacing Gurudas Kamat, who has handled the party’s affairs till now.

The Congress president also appointed four new secretaries Rajeev Satav, Harshvardhan Sapkal, Varsha Gaikwad and Jeetu Patwari. (AGENCIES)
