Rahul, MHA Jt Secy visiting Doda

JAMMU, May 25: All India Congress (I) Committee Vice President Rahul Gandhi is visiting earthquake affected Bhaderwah and Doda towns on May 28 to inter-act with the victims and have first hand assessment of the situation. The Joint Secretary in Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) K Shankar is also visiting the quake hit areas tomorrow to assess the damage.
Mr Gandhi is also scheduled to visit Kashmir the same day in connection with providing package under ‘Umeed’ scheme.
Rahul would visit Bhaderwah and Doda towns, which were hit by devastating earthquake along with Kishtwar district on May 1 killing a couple of civilians and destroying a large number of houses and other private and Government buildings.
Congress sources confirmed the visit of Rahul to quake hit areas on May 28 during which he would visit the areas damaged by the quake and inter-act with the victims.
The Joint Secretary of the MHA is visiting the quake hit areas tomorrow. He would also assess the damage in his meetings with the administration and visiting various areas.
It may be mentioned here that the State Government has submitted a proposal to the Centre seeking Rs 607 crore worth special Central assistance for the quake victims and restoration of damaged infrastructure in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts.
