NEW DELHI : The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has issued a notice to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi seeking clarification whether he had declared himself as a British citizen during his stay in the United Kingdom.BJP chief whip in the Lower House Arjun Ram Meghwal told mediapersons on the Parliament premises today that Mr Gandhi is served notice seeking clarification whether had he declared himself as a British citizen.
Mr Meghwal said Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has received a complaint against Mr Gandhi over the issue which had been referred to the House ethics committee. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy raised this issue sometime ago.
Later, ruling party MP Mahesh Giri had lodged a formal complaint before the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Congress termed the move ‘political vendetta’ saying the Speaker referred the issue to the House ethics panel without seeking explanation from Mr Gandhi. (AGENCIES)
