NEW DELHI, Nov 16: Days ahead of the one-year anniversary of farm agitation at Delhi borders against the three farm laws, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took a jibe at the Modi Government pointing out its insensitivity towards the farmers’ plight.
When the word ‘martyr’ has to be prefixed to a farmer’s name, it shows, the cruelty of the government has crossed its limit. Salute to Annadata Satyagraha! #farmersprotest, Rahul Gandhi tweeted. Meanwhile, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of farms agitation, has given a call to farmers to assemble at the protest sites in large numbers on November 26, the day when farmers had first reached the Delhi borders last year.
On November 26, there will be a large gathering of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan at all the Delhi borders. Large meetings will be held there, SKM said in a statement.
The SKM had also decided that tractor march to Parliament everyday during the winter session. From November 29 until the end of this Parliament session, 500 selected farmer volunteers will move every day to Parliament in tractor peacefully in order to increase the pressure on the insensitive, anti-people and pro-corporate BJP’s Central Government, to force it to concede the demands for which farmers across the country have launched a historic struggle for one year, it said.
In March, the farmers had taken out a foot march to Parliament to oppose the contentious three farm laws.
On January 26, a tractor rally had turned violent with protesters breaking barricades, attacking security personnel and storming the Red Fort, where they hoisted a religious flag. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been protesting against the laws, which were stayed by the Supreme Court in January, at the Delhi borders since November 26 last year. (UNI)
