Rahul to visit Surankote, Srinagar today

JAMMU, Sept 22: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and former All India Congress Committee president, Rahul Gandhi will visit Surankote town in district Poonch and Srinagar tomorrow and address public meetings.

“Gandhi will address a public meeting at Surankote town tomorrow around 11.30 am in favour of Congress-National Conference alliance candidate and AICC secretary, Shahnawaz Chaudhary.
After addressing rally, Rahul will fly to Srinagar in the afternoon and address another rally in favour of JKPCC president, Tariq Hameed Karra in Central Shalteng in Srinagar city. He will fly back to Delhi in the evening, a party spokesman said.
Pertinent to mention here that Rahul Gandhi addressed two rallies at Sangaldan in Banihal constituency in favour of former JKPCC president and party candidate Vikar Rasool Wani and another one in Dooru, Anantnag in favour of party candidate and AICC general secretary, Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
National Conference president and former J&K Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah is also expected to share the dais with Rahul and address the rally during Shalteng (Batmaloo), rally in Srinagar City.
Besides Rahul Gandhi, several senior AICC leaders including Bharatsinh Solanki, Dr Nasir Hussain and Alka Lamba are already in J&K, campaigning for the party candidates.
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge asserted on Sunday that the party’s progressive development agenda is for all the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the seven guarantees will focus on social justice and economic empowerment.
On his social media handle X, Kharge said, “The Indian National Congress pledges to safeguard the Constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Our progressive development agenda is for everyone. The seven guarantees of the Congress party for Jammu and Kashmir will usher in a brighter future, which focuses on social justice and economic empowerment,” Kharge added.
Meanwhile, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said that if the party is voted to power in Jammu and Kashmir, it will carve out a path for J&K to attain full statehood.
“As Jammu and Kashmir votes to shape its own destiny after a decade, the Congress and its alliance is committed to keeping the people of J&K at the Centre of its policy making,” Venugopal said on X.
“We will carve out a path for J&K to attain full Statehood, bring relief to the youth, farmers and poor suffering due to misgovernance, and bring an end to the rampant corruption taking place throughout the state. Ours is a progressive agenda that will transform J&K,” Venugopal added.
