 NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday visited the residence of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek his blessings before filing nomination for post of party President.
Mr Gandhi will file nomination for the post of the Congress president clearing decks for his much-awaited elevation to the top position in the party.
Today is the last day of filing nomination for the post and with Mr Gandhi being the only person to file his papers for the post, his election as party president is a foregone conclusion.
Party leaders say that if Mr Gandhi is the only one to have filed nomination, he could be declared the party president tomorrow after the scrutiny of papers.
After visiting Dr Singh, Mr Gandhi is likely to visit residence of former President Pranab Mukherjee to seek his blessings. (AGENCIES)
