NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today visited Shakur  Basti demolition site, where a six-month old girl had died allegedly in a demolition drive by railway authorities on Saturday, triggering a political row in the national capital.

Mr Gandhi met around 2000 slum dwellers who were now forced to live under open sky following the day-long razing drive by railway authorities to remove ‘unauthorised encroachments’.        Holding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for the plight of people, Mr Gandhi alleged that both were accusing each other in a bid to cover up their failure.

”Modi Sarkar &Kejriwal Sarkar are responsible for what has happened. But now they are busy blaming each other. Instead they should provide help to the people who have been displaced & rehabilitate them,” Mr Gandhi told mediapersons.

Assuring them of all possible help, he said, “I shall raise your plight in Parliament”.

”This action was uncalled for. There is always a proper mechanism to execute things. People living here are human too,” Mr Gandhi said, expressing solidarity with them. (AGENCIES)
