SRINAGAR: Train service has again been suspended in the Kashmir valley today, when separatists had called for ” United Nations Military Observers Office ” in Srinagar challo in protest against alleged Human Rights (HR) violations by the security forces.
”We have suspended all trains between Srinagar-Badgam-in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir today,” a Railway official said.
Similarly, no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region, he said.
The official said the train runs were suspended as a precautionary measure following advisory by the police keeping in view the safety of passengers and railway property.
”We will restore the railway service once a green signal is received from the police and administration,” he said.
In the past railway suffered damage of crores of rupees during violence. However, last year the rail service remained suspended for about six months unrest.
Railway has become a very popular mode of transport in the valley and majority daily travellers are using it, considering cheap, safe and reliable service. (AGENCIES)
