Rail service to Banihal from Srinagar suspended again

SRINAGAR: All train runs between Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region have been suspended this afternoon for security reasons following encounter between militants and security forces followed by death of two civilians allegedly in security force firing.

However, train service from Srinagar to Baramulla in north Kashmir via Badgam remained operational.

A Railway official said that train service between Badgam, Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag and Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region was suspended this afternoon for security reasons.

Decision to run the rail service tomorrow will be taken tonight following a general strike call by separatist organizations in protest against the Pulwama incident, where two civilians were killed allegedly after security force opened fire to disperse demonstrators near encounter site at Lalhar Pulwama after a local militant was killed in an encounter.  (AGENCIES)
