Militant, associate arrested in Kashmir

JAMMU, Apr 18: A Railway Protection Force personnel was martyred while another one injured in a militant attack at Kakapora area of Pulwama district today.
Militants attacked two cops of Railway Police at Kakapora Railway Station in Pulwama district who were at a tea stall outside Railway Station this afternoon.
Both the cops identified as Head Constable Surinder Singh and Sub-Inspector Dev Raj received critical injuries and Singh succumbed before reaching to hospital while as Dev Raj was shifted to tertiary care hospital Srinagar where his condition is stated as critical.
Security forces cordoned off the area immediately to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condemned the terror attack.
“Strongly condemn despicable terror attack on RPF personnel in Pulwama. I salute the bravery of HC Surinder Kumar, who attained martyrdom. The perpetrators of barbaric act will not be spared. Condolences to the grieving family & prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” office of LG J&K tweeted.
Police today arrested recently joined LeT (TRF) militant in the orchards of Lawaypora area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Police said that they received a specific input regarding the presence of recently joined LeT( TRF) militant in the orchards of Lawaypora area .
Police said that acting on this information a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Bandipora police, 14 RR and 3Bn CRPF and one youth identified as Amir Tariq Khan alias Waleed son of Tariq Ahmad Khan, a resident of Lawaypora Bandipora was arrested.
Police said that the youth’s photograph regarding joining of TRF militant outfit went viral on social media on 13.04.2022.
“In this regard cognizance has been taken in police station Bandipora under relevant Section of law & further investigation taken up,” the police added.
In the meantime, Police along with security forces arrested a militant associate in Handwara along with arms and ammunition.
Police said that they along with 15RR of Army at a checkpoint established at Sonmullah Crossing intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing joint naka party tried to flee from the spot but the alert party apprehended him tactfully. He has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Kumar son of Abdul Raheem Kumar, resident of Lilum Vilgam in Handwara area of Kupwara district.
“During his personal search, incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one Chinese pistol, two pistol magazines, 13 live rounds of 9 mm and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession”, police said.
“His affiliation and involvement is being ascertained. Accordingly, a case under relevant Sections of law has been registered in Police Station Vilgam and investigation initiated”, police said.
