Railway proposes to give facelift to Kathua Station: DTM

Feasibility of VB stop being worked out

KATHUA, Jan 11: The Railway is contemplating on a plan to give complete facelift to Kathua Railway Station under AMRUT and a proposal in this regard has been submitted to the higher authorities for approval.
This was stated by DTM Railway, Prateek Srivastav while talking to reporters during his visit to Kathua Railway Station today. He said the proposal has been submitted to higher ups for approval and if granted the Kathua Railway Station will be given a complete facelift.
He said under the new proposal platform covered shed will be constructed. Besides, a wide foot over -a specially abled persons friendly bridge will also be constructed at the Railway Station under this scheme.
He said under the complete facelift proposal to Railway Station Kathua, a new building will also be constructed with waiting rooms for passengers travelling in different classes.
The DTM said that Kathua being the gateway of J&K having borders with neighboring States of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, besides a business centre and industrial hub and having military stations so the station needs to be fully developed and given a complete facelift.
Srivastav said the Railways is contemplating on a plan in this regard as already three important stations of Jammu region including Railway Station Jammu, Railway Station, Udhampur and Railway Station, Katra have been included under AMRUT and given a complete facelift. The Kathua also being an important Railway Station of UT hence the proposal for the same was also submitted to higher ups, he added.
He said regarding the stoppage of newly started Vande Bharat train from Katra to New Delhi and back at Kathua and Udhampur, the Railway is working out feasibility for the same. He said earlier train was run on trial and stoppage was given at Udhampur and Kathua.
But as the train has to reach within eight hours from Katra to Delhi the Railway is working out to adjust the stoppage time at Kathua and Udhampur within the eight hours duration. He said at the Divisional level the Railway is working out the feasibility and “we are hopeful that some solution will be found so that the train can stop at both the stations and the distance from Delhi to Katra is covered within eight hours and vice versa.”
Earlier Vice Chairman, District Development Council (DDC) Kathua, Raghunandan Singh Babloo submitted a memorandum to DTM demanding stoppage time of train at Kathua and Udhampur stations for the convenience of passengers. He said the Kathua being an important Railway Station which touching neighboring States of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh besides being an industrial hub the stoppage of Vande Bharat train may be fixed here too. He said this has been a long pending demand of the people of entire Kathua district which the Railway should concede without any delay.
