Railway tunneling fallout

Preliminary report of experts on the fallout on   environment by the tunnels dug for Katra-Qazigund rail track seems to have alarmed the District Commissioner of Reasi especially because of depletion of water in some areas. The name of Mari village has been mentioned in particular where water shortage has affected almost 50,000 people. DC Reasi wants the Konkan Railways to find a solution to the problem and compensate the affected people. One can understand the concern of the civil authorities. However nobody can underestimate the importance of the huge project of rail connectivity to Kashmir and the expenditures incurred on it. Some physical changes will occur when the massive project is executed and the people have to be told that for achieving major goals some minor sacrifices have to be made. There seems little rationale in overstating the fallout of tunneling the mountains wherever necessary. Small difficulties can be sorted out through mutual consultation. Konkan Railways are doing a great service to the State, something that is going to change the destiny of the State, to speak the truth. Entire State should be thankful to this proud organization and those who are working at the incredibly forbidding project.
