JAMMU, Dec 14: To tackle the menace of trespassing on and across railway tracks around Jammu station, Railway authorities today organized an awareness drive in Maratha Basti near east side of the Station.
On the occasion, along with Station Director Uchit Singhal, Deputy SP/GRP Albina Malik, ASC/RPF VK Tripathi and SS Jammu were present. They counselled the people, especially women and children on the need to adopt the alternate ways and not to cross/walk on the tracks as this can have very harmful results.
As per the Station Director, women of the area were specially targeted under this drive, as a woman can not only bring change in her family but the community as well. Singhal said to tackle the menace of trespassing, a 3E model is being adopted which is quite new and unique in itself. It combines enforcement with engineering and education.
He said under enforcement, regular cases are being booked by the staff deployed for the same under 147 railway act along with regular whistling to divert the people off track while under engineering, weak spots have been identified to address the lacunae which invite trespassing.
Under education, he said special information, awareness and counselling drives are being done in the nearby jhuggi basti colonies to make them understand the consequences of trespassing which not only includes risk to their own life but affects their family and safe and smooth train operations as well.
“Further, regular announcements are being done at the Station to counsel people to use foot over bridges,” Singhal added.
