RAJOURI, June 10: With heavy rain, a few areas of Thannamandi town were inundated and water entered several shops and houses in the town near Khan Market due to blockage of drainage system.
Several locals struggled a lot as the rain left the main road inundated. The drainage system has not been properly maintained from last one and half year. Rain water also entered several houses in the town and making difficult for pedestrian to walk. The goods in the shops were damaged. There is no way for the water to drain as the drainage system is dysfunctional.
“Every year, during the rainy season, local residents approach the authorities with their demand for proper drainage in the locality. But no action has been taken till now”, the residents said, adding that it was not a difficult task for the authorities to provide drainage facilities.
“There are no adequate drainage facilities in the area. Every year, we drain out rainwater from houses and shops in the locality, and suffer huge loss”, the residents alleged.
On this road several important offices exist and school going children have to cross the road but all are unable to do that. The drainage system near Police Station and Khan Market is closed and needs to be opened. Locals also told that the drainage must be opened from two sides from Middle School Thannamandi and water to be equally distributed from both sides. The market remained closed for three hours today. Locals appealed to the District authorities to look into the matter.
