It has been brought to my notice by the various deputations of the farmers, NGOs etc. that the untimely rain for the last one and half month in the Jammu region has caused heavy damages in the Jammu region which has shattered the hopes of the farmers and they are in distress”.
It further said that the damage is in crores as this disaster spread over an entire Jammu region. This problem got multiplied due to the shortage of labour, non procurement of paddy by the traders as they are ambivalent to procure the paddy damaged by the rains due lack of storage facilities in the area. The untimely prolonged rains have also delayed the sowing of rabbi crops i.e. Wheat and Muster crops. The farmers are in troubles and under stress so needs immediate relief to cope with the damage as well as to procure seeds and fertilizer for the sowing of Wheat, the letter added.
The letter further said since damages are unprecedented so there is need of special survey of the actual loss (special Girdawari) to access the actual loss in order to provide adequate relief. Since the Jammu region’s economy is mostly agricultural based but this disaster has resulted into crippling economy of the area. In order to cope with the situation the revenue authorities may be directed to the take up the job for assessing the loss to provide immediate relief to the farmers, it added.
