JAMMU, Apr 7: Former MLC and BJP JK UT spokesperson, Girdhari Lal Raina strongly condemned former Union Minister, and president of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad for abusing and hurting sentiments of Kashmiri Pandits in his autobiography as reported by the media.
Raina blamed Azad for being equally responsible for forced displacement of Kashmiri Hindus from the Valley in 1989-90. He was also one of the persons at helm responsible for death and destruction in J&K. Azad’s studied silence over gathering storms from 1980 onwards, infiltration / exfiltration of terrorists and unilateral attacks on minority Hindus in Kashmir is well known, he added.
Azad was always at important decision making positions of Congress party and also in its Government, Raina said. Azad can in no way escape responsibility for happenings in J&K and his description of events leading to displacement of Hindus is a ploy to shift blame for narrow electoral benefits, Raina emphasised.
Azad was in Union Government continuously from 1980-1989  the period that saw targeted isolation – persecution of religious minorities in Kashmir including violent communal attacks in Anantnag in 1986 and also selective killings of minority community of Pandits in 1988-89 much before even elections to 9th Lok Sabha were held. Targeted killing of Pt. Keshav Nath Ji Mahant of Vicharnag, Srinagar, December 9, 1988, Prabhawati of Chadoora Budgam, Pt. DN Raina of Drabyar Srinagar, Sheela Tikoo of Srinagar and Pt. Tika Lal Taploo , Pt. Neel Kanth Ganjoo in 1989 was much before Congress Party was voted out in New Delhi.
Ghulam Nabi Azad was there when the Rajiv Gandhi-Farooq accord happened and when 70 terrorists were released in 1989 by then Farooq Abdulla Government.
How can he ignore the environment of terror and targeted stone pelting of minority community homes during the Lok Sabha elections of 1989? Raina asked. Coffins were put in front of polling stations to threaten voters and Azad did not even come to campaign in Kashmir.
Reasons identified by Azad responsible for displacement is to bail out real culprits and if he thinks this undermining of truth will endear him to voters of a particular section, he is grossly mistaken. “Let Azad recall how he was rejected even as Chief Minister’’, Raina reminded him.
Blaming Jagmohan is a sponsored conspiracy to destabilise India and sabotage Indian democracy. Raina asserted that the minority community was only targeted for on the basis of their religious identity and being nationalists, he added.
