Arrangements for PM’s Srinagar rally discussed

JAMMU, Feb 28: The BJP leaders including party president, JKUT Ravinder Raina and general secretary (Org), Ashok Koul called on senior party leaders including Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, party national president, J P Nadda and party national general secretary (Org), B L Santosh in the Union capital today and submitted a list of probable candidates for Lok Sabha constituencies of J&K to them which was shortlisted by Election Committee of UT during its meeting here, yesterday.
The party national general secretary and incharge J&K and Ladakh UTs , Tarun Chugh and co in charge J&K Ashish Sood were also present in the meeting.
The Party’s National Election Committee and Parliamentary Board will, however, scrutinize the list and finalise the names of candidates after discussing the same in a high level meeting in New Delhi. BJP State J&K president, Ravinder Raina whose name according to sources has also been recommended by UT Election Committee for both Jammu as well as newly carved out Anantnag- Rajouri Parliamentary constituency said that they met the party senior leaders as well as Union Home Minister and submitted a list to them.
He, however, declined to share the names of the candidates shortlisted by UT Election Committee saying that everything will be open within some days after the High Command accords its approval to the contesting candidates. He said both sitting MPs are in the list shortlisted by the State Election Committee and the final decision lies with party High Command.
It may be recalled that soon after the short listing of the candidates in Election Committee meeting here yesterday both Raina and Koul proceeded for Union Capital this morning to discuss the shortlisted candidates with national leaders.
Sources said that tomorrow the National Election Committee will meet at New Delhi under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to make the selection of candidates for various Parliamentary constituencies in the country and in case the J&K also figured in the meeting then the list of candidates may be approved in that very meeting. However, it has not yet been ascertained whether the J&K candidates will figure in the tomorrow’s meeting or not, sources added.
Raina said that besides submitting the names of shortlisted candidates, the discussions were held on preparedness of PM’s March 7 Srinagar rally. He said all the preparations and arrangements are being made for rally were threadbare discussed with senior party leaders. The party will ensure to arrange a gathering of over two lakh people at PM’s Srinagar rally. He said over one lakh people from South Kashmir are expected to attend the rally while over lakh will attend both from Central and North Kashmir.
He said besides, the March 7 rally at Srinagar, the party has made a submission to Prime Minister to hold one election rally in Anantnag in near future and they are optimistic that the PM will accord approval to it.
He said the party is also going to arrange rally of Home Minister, Amit Shah in Surankote, Poonch for Anantnag -Rajouri constituency. Raina said after according ST status to Paharis and giving political reservation to Gujjars and Bakerwals as well as launch of various public welfare schemes for all sections of people by Modi Government the BJP’s prospects have brightened to a great extent and party will romp home in all five constituencies of J&K.
It may be recalled that party Election Committee met here yesterday and held a marathon discussion on the names of probable candidates for upcoming Lok Sabha elections for two constituencies of Jammu submitted by the survey team. Though the survey team has submitted about a dozen names from each constituency of Jammu, the Committee shortlisted four names from each constituency and submitted the same to High Command for approving the two candidates among them for two constituencies of Jammu region.
Sources said that the names of candidates for the Anantnag-Rajouri, Central Kashmir and North Kashmir constituencies will be announced later as party is watching what strategy the opposition parties will adopt on these three constituencies.
