Rains in Valley, snowfall in hills of Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 10: Light rain lashed Kashmir while hills including Gulmarg received fresh snowfall today as Mughal Road and Srinagar-Leh National Highway remained closed for traffic.
A Meteorological Department official forecast cloudy weather conditions and light rains for next 12 hours but said that the weather will remain dry for next 10 days in Kashmir.
“In next 24 hours, generally cloudy weather is expected at many places with snowfall at isolated places, mainly over higher reaches,” he said.
“From November 11-20, mainly dry weather is expected. However, brief spell of light rain/ snow may occur at isolated places over higher reaches. From tomorrow, expect warmer days and colder nights,” he added.

He said there may be temporary disruption in surface transportation over major passes today.
The Mughal Road, connecting twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian and Srinagar-Leh highway remained closed for second consecutive day today. There was fresh snowfall at both the places today.
Kashmir valley was lashed by rains today while hills received fresh snowfall with Gulmarg 6 inches, Macchil 7 inches, Tanghdar 5 inches, Sadna Top 8 inches, Keran 5 inches, Gurez 7 inches, Razdhan Top one feet, Zojila pass 6 inches, Sonamarg 3 inches, Pir Ki Gali 4 inches, Aharbal 3 inches and Sinthan Top 5 inches.
Meanwhile, there was further rise in minimum temperature amid cloud cover last night with Srinagar recording a minimum of 2.8°C against 1.0°C the previous night. The temperature was 3.4°C above the normal for this time of the year in Srinagar.
Qazigund recorded a low of 2.8°C against 0.2°C the previous night. The temperature was 3.6°C above normal for the town.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 1.2°C against 0.7°C previous night and it was 4.4°C above normal for the tourist resort.
Kokernag recorded a low of 2.3°C against 1.1°C the previous night and it was 3.0°C above normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 3.4°C against minus 3.0°C the previous night. It was 1.2°C above normal for the skiing resort.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 1.3°C against 1.0°C the previous night. It was 3.0°C above normal for the place.
Leh recorded minus 4.8°C.
