SRINAGAR, Apr 2: Day temperature in summer capital recorded decline here by several notches as Kashmir valley experienced intermittent rains today.
A Meteorological Department official told Excelsior that rains lashed all parts of Kashmir Valley and the highest rainfall was recorded in frontier Kupwara district of north Kashmir followed by Pahalgam in south Kashmir.
The downpour resulted in decline of day temperature in Srinagar by five notches as the maximum temperature was recorded 13.5 degree Celsius and minimum temperature was 9.3 degree Celsius.
Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir Valley, recorded 15.6 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 6.8 degree Celsius. Pahalgam, which serves as Base Camp for annual Amarnath pilgrimage, recorded 14.2 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 4.7 degree Celsius.
The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg, a star skiing destination, was recorded 9.3 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 2.6 degree Celsius. Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded 14.9 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 8.9 degree Celsius minimum temperature.
The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 12.0 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 6.8 degree Celsius. Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 19.0 degree Celsius maximum temperature and minimum was 8.6 degree Celsius.
The MeT official predicted heavy to light downpour for four days and said widespread rains would lash Valley on Sunday.
