Rains lash Valley, snowfall in hills

Srinagar, Mar 22: Rain lashed the Valley while upper reaches of Kashmir including ski resort of Gulmarg received fresh snowfall today.
Srinagar and other parts of the Valley were lashed by rains since last evening while the upper reaches of Kashmir including ski resort Gulmarg received snowfall. However, the weather improved in the afternoon.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of 7.2°C against 9.9°C the previous night and it was above normal by 2.2°C for the city for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of 7.0°C against 6.4°C the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the town.
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 3.7°C against 3.0°C the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the resort.
Kokernag recorded a minimum of 5.6°C against 8.2°C the previous night and it was 2.3°C above normal.
Kupwara recorded a low of 6.6°C against 7.3°C the previous night and it was 3.4°C below normal there.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.5°C against 3.2°C the previous night and it was above normal by 1.1°C for the skiing resort.
Srinagar recorded a maximum of 15. 2 degree Celsius temperature today which was 0.1 degree Celsius below normal for the city for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 16.5 degree Celsius which is 1.8 degree Celsius above normal for the place during this time of the year.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 10.8 degree Celsius which is 0.9 degree Celsius below normal for the place during this time of the year.
Kupwara recorded a maximum of 12.1 degree Celsius which is 3.1 degree Celsius below normal for the place during this time of the year.
Kokernag recorded a maximum of 16.0 degree Celsius which is 1.8 degree Celsius above normal for the place during this time of the year.
Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 4. 8 degree Celsius which is 0.4 degree Celsius above below for the place during this time of the year.
A Meteorological department official said that weather was likely to improve even as light to moderate rain and thundershowers may occur over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
From March 23-26, he said, generally dry weather with brief cloudiness is expected.
On March 27, he said, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected with light rain/snow at few places.
From March 28-31, he said, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected with intermittent light rain and snow at many places.
