Rains lash Valley, temp below normal

SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Day temperature in Kashmir remained below normal as intermittent rains lashed Kashmir valley for the second consecutive day today.
A Meteorological Department official said that light to moderate rainfall lashed all parts of Valley today and, as a result, the day temperature remained below normal by several notches. The rains have brought respite to people from heat.
He said the day temperature in Srinagar dropped by around five notches against the normal temperature of 29 degree Celsius due to downpour. The official said that  Srinagar recorded 23.9 degree Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature settled at 17.5 degree Celsius. The temperature in other parts of the Valley also remained below the normal temperature.
According to MeT official, Qazigund recorded 25.3 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 17.2 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 21.3 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 15.1 degree Celsius. The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded 14.2 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 11.0 degree Celsius.
Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded 23.8 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 16.4 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 27.9 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 13.8 degree Celsius. Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 24.0 degree Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature remained 13.9 degree Celsius.
The MeT official said that there is possibility of light rain/thundershowers in Srinagar in next 24 hours. “Maximum & Minimum temperatures will be around 25°C and 16 °C respectively,” he said.
