JAMMU, Nov 15: Raj Bharti, an educationist, social activist, cultural enthusiast and an artist from Jammu, was today awarded first Ramesh Mehta Samriti Puraskar.
The award was presented to Raj Bharti during a function organized by Hindi Sahitya Mandal (HSM), Jammu and family members of Ramesh Mehta, a renowned poet, painter and former secretary of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Literature, at K L Saigal Hall, Jammu. The award comprised of Rs 11000 cash, a citation and a robe of honour for her contribution in the broad fields of art- culture- music- theatre and literature, including writings on and about culture to an artist, cultural activist or writer.
Advocate Chander Mohan Sharma was the chief guest on this occasion whereas Dr Lalit Magotra (president Dogri Sanstha) and Dr Agnishekhar (eminent Hindi & Kashmiri writer) presided over the function. Brij Mehta, wife of Ramesh Mehta was present in the presidium. Pavitra Mehta and Mukul Mehta, daughter and son respectively, of Mehta were present with the dignitaries on this occasion.
While presenting welcome address, Dr Raj Kumar (resident HSM-J) remembered Ramesh Mehta and his contributions in the field of literature and culture. Later, a brief introduction of Raj Bharti was read out in a citation by Rakesh Abrol (executive member of HSM).
On the occasion, Raj Bharti, Brij Mehta, Dr Lalit Magotra, Dr Agnishekhar and Advocate Chander Mohan Sharma expressed their views on the life, work and contribution of Ramesh Mehta and also lauded Raj Bharti for her contribution in the field of art, culture, social work, performing and folk arts and so on.
Manto Dutta gave an introduction of Mehta whereas M K Santoshi, Dr Chanchal Dogra and Dr Javed Rahi (chief editor, JKAACL) shared their memoir with Mehta. The poetry of Mehta was recited by Sanjiv Bhasin (vice president HSM-J).
Dr Pawan Khajuria (secretary, HSM-J) conducted proceedings of the programme, which concluded with vote of thanks presented by Jang S Verman (publicity secretary).
