Rajendera, other officials review security of Kot Bhalwal jail

DG Prisons K Rajendera and other police officials installing ranks on promoted officer at Kot Bhalwal jail on Friday.

JAMMU, May 17: Director General Prisons K Rajendera along with other senior officers of the police and civil administration, who formed part of review committee of the Government, today held a high level review of security situation in Kot Bhalwal jail, where a Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay had been killed few days back by another prisoner.
Accompanied by IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, District Magistrate Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Incharge SSP Jammu Rajeshwar Singh and SP Rural Jammu Rajesh Kumar, Mr Rajendera held a detailed review of security scenario in the jail with police, civil and Prison Department officials.
The meeting was aimed at holding a detailed review of the situation and take steps to ensure that the incidents like the killing of Sanaullah Ranjay were not repeated in future.
He called upon the Prisons staff to maintain high alert in the jail. At the same time, he said, the prisoners shouldn’t be harassed and they should have conducive atmosphere to live in.
The grievances, if any of the prisoners, should be properly address.
The review committee of the Government headed by Mr Rajendera went round the entire prison and reviewed security and other arrangements. They inter-acted with the staff and the prisoners.
Mr Rajendera addressed `Darbar’ of the Prisons staff and called upon the staff to work honestly and sincerely. They said the staff should be devoted and dedicated to their duties.
Security, surveillance, strength of the staff and all other steps required for the jail came up for review at the high level meeting.
The DG Prisons made it clear that he was not happy with the incident of Kot Bhalwal jail i.e. the murderous assault on Sanaullah Ranjay by a prisoner that led to his death in PGIMER Chandigarh.
Mr Rajendera had recently promoted five Head Warden as Assistant Superintendents of Jail. Of them, two-Agya Ram and Madan Singh Charak were installed the rank of Assistant Superintendent in Kot Bhalwal jail today.
