SRINAGAR, June 9: Jammu and Kashmir Police has been contributing in drug de-addiction by providing required medical treatment and counselling at its De-addiction Centre established at Srinagar. The Centre would be upgraded enhancing its capacity from 11 to 25 bed, in order to meet the requirements.
This was disclosed by Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, during his visit to Drug de-addiction Centre at PCR today. He said that drug abuse affects the capabilities and energies of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together and eradicate the growing menace, which has risen to an alarming position in the modern society.
Mr. Rajendra said that JKP, realising its social responsibility has taken initiatives for the physical and mental development of youth of the State. Besides professional duties we have been working for drug de-addiction and such centres are operational at Jammu and some other district headquarters also.
On the occasion, DGP interacted with the patients, their guardians and sought their view about the performance of De-addiction Centre.
DGP sought cooperation from the parents to overcome the menace and save the youngsters from drug consumption, which also leads to other evils and crimes. He stressed to dissuade the youth, particularly the teenagers from drug abuse and aware about its effects. He said parents have an important role to keep the youngsters away from the use of drugs and also the family support for the affected people could lead them towards normal life.
DGP emphasised upon the doctors and other staff of the Centre to take the job as a noble task and treat the people with patience and dedication. He said youth are our precious asset and we have to use their energies in a positive way.
Earlier, DGP was briefed by the Director of the Centre, Dr. Mohammad Muzaffar Khan about the performance since it was established in 2008.
The DGP was accompanied by Spl. DG (Coordination), SK Mishra, ADGPs, VK Singh and L Mohanti, IGP, Kashmir, SJM Gillani, DIG CKR, GH Bhat, AIG (Buildings), Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, SSP PCR, Suhail Munwar Mir, Exn, PCD, Rashid Mustafa, SP, Manoj Koul and other police officers.
