SRINAGAR, June 2: K. Rajendra Kumar, who is holding the charge of Director General of Police (DGP) has stressed upon the officers of JKP and other security agencies to evolve joint mechanism and planning for ensuring peaceful Amarnath yatra-2012. He has also stressed for greater synergy at all levels for gaining people’s cooperation to maintain law and order in the State during the yatra.
Rajendra was addressing a high level meeting of police, para-military and intelligence officers held at police headquarters here today. The meeting was convened prior to the visit of Union Special Secretary (Home), I. S.. Chadda, who is arriving here to took stock of the arrangements made for the yatra.
The meeting reviewed the security and other arrangements for the ensuing Amarnath yatra. Rajendra, at the outset of the meeting sought reports from the officers about the deployment of manpower of State police and other para-military forces. Arrangements with regard to traffic and other related matters were also discussed in the meeting.
A detailed power point presentation was given by IGP, Kashmir Zone, S. M. Sahai informing the meeting that efficient arrangements would be made to keep the routes leading to the Holy Cave hassle free and to ensure safety of pilgrims.
The DGP stressed upon the officers present in the meeting that while making security arrangements it should be made mandatory that the common masses do not face any inconvenience during their day-to-day activities. He said that traffic should be regulated smoothly so that the commuters, particularly the business establishments and students do not suffer due to traffic jams. He said that people’s cooperation is must for keeping law and order maintained and the field staff should develop sincere relationship with the public to achieve better results.
The meeting was told that sufficient arrangements have already been put in place to ensure effective communication network starting from Lakhanpur to Holy Cave on both the routes via Pahalgam and Baltal. For the safety of pilgrims vehicle checking would be done at the identified places for which sufficient gadgets are being provided.
Rajendra asked the officers to establish joint control rooms at different places to maintain close coordination with the civil administration and other security agencies. Weather reports should be sought on daily basis and deliberations held to make required arrangements for the safety of pilgrims. To deal with any exigency preventive measures needs to be adopted and volunteers of SDRF should be kept on high alert, said Rajendra.
He said that experience of previous years should be kept under consideration while making the arrangements and if any short coming is found, the concerned officers should come up with the proposal so that necessary arrangements are made in advance.
