SRINAGAR, Oct 18: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar today reviewed the functioning of Anti Human Trafficking Units in the State. He stressed to enhance the functioning of these units and make their working visible for the awareness of general public.
The meeting which was held at Police Headquarters (PHQ), was also attended by Special DG (Coordination/Law & Order, Dr. S. P. Vaid, IGP Kashmir, SJM Gillani and IGP CIV, Sham Lal Sharma.
Addressing the meeting, Rajendra said that Anti Human Trafficking (AHT) is one of the bigger challenges to police which needs to be taken seriously. He said that the AHT units established in seven districts of the State should function at the pattern of police stations, maintaining their Roznamchas regularly. All missing reports should be entered as per the guidelines of Supreme Court and concrete measures taken to trace out the missing persons.
Registration of reports should be uploaded on police website so that common masses can help to check the human trafficking especially the children which has become a menace in the society.
DGP said that AHT units will work at visible locations so that the common people could approach to register their reports . He said that permanent arrangements for their efficient functioning would be made, besides providing required infrastructure including logistics, staff, mobility and communication network.
IGP Crime, Muneer Ahmed Khan apprised the meeting about the status of seven AHT units established at Baramulla, Srinagar, Anantnag, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur and Doda. He said that the working of these units is monitored at district level and some measures need to be taken to strengthen their working.
Rajendra assured that PHQ would provide every assistance to make these AHT units more functional and enhance their performance. He said that State Government is also liberal to provide required assistance for the promotion of AHT units in the State for the betterment of society.
Rajendra, during the meeting also reviewed the functioning of newly established women police stations in the State. He asked to lay thrust on the strengthening of their working so that women folk is provided justice without any undue delay.
DGP asked the officers to accelerate the process for the joining of newly recruited constables so that they are deputed for basic training in different police training institutions in the State. He said that process of medical check up and character verification should be completed on priority to enable them to join the department.
Among others, the meeting was attended by SSP Srinagar, Amit Kumar, AIG (CIV), Kulbir Singh, SSP Baramulla, Mir Imtiyaz Hussain. SSPs of Anantnag, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur and Doda also attended the meeting through video conferencing.
