SRINAGAR, Sept 17: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, reviewed the rescue operations and assistance work undertaken by JKP in the flood affected areas of the State. He has stressed upon the jawans and officers involved in the public service to continue their efforts in restoring the normal life, treating it a noble cause for the suffering people.
Mr. Rajendra was chairing a meeting of senior police officers at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today, which was convened to review the police assistance being provided in the flood hit areas. The meeting had threadbare discussions on the reports sought from field establishments. The meeting was told that all wings of JKP including executive, armed, home-guards, traffic, Police Housing Corporation, police tele-communication and volunteers of civil defence are rubbing their shoulders with the civil administration in the areas of their jurisdictions to ease the sufferings of victims.
Reviewing the working of Special Control Room established at Srinagar Airport, Mr. Rajendra disclosed that the Control Room is working round the clock and coordinating the relief work among different agencies. He said that more than 350 police personnel are engaged in collecting the relief material, being despatched from various states and NGOs, at the Airport, which is transported to different places in the valley for distribution among the deserving people through civil authorities.
The DGP stressed upon all ranks to continue their efforts in the rescue and assistance work till the situation is restored. He said that the floods have left various people homeless, caused loss of precious lives, properties and at this hour JKP in coordination with civil administration have a great role to do and ease sufferings of people. He said that JKP has always remained in service of the people and at this juncture also they will be on forefront to rebuild the State.
The meeting also discussed losses caused to the infrastructure of the Organization and personal losses to the jawans and officers of the force. It was told that various office and residential buildings including department vehicles of the Organization have been damaged in the flood hit areas effecting the normal policing. Besides losses to the residential houses and personal belongings of the personnel have been reported from different areas of the State.
Mr. Rajendra directed the officers to chalk out modalities, compensating the losses to the police personnel through departmental sources. He said that the losses would be worked out after obtaining information from the supervising officers and relief rules eased to benefit the sufferers. He disclosed that a committee has been constituted at PHQ to assess the losses suffered by the move employees putting up in different hotels in Srinagar. Losses with regard to equipments are also being worked out by the committee.
The meeting had also threadbare discussion with regard to the steps taken to strengthen police tele-communication network to facilitate the rescue and relief operations in the State. The meeting was briefed that full-fledged round the clock wireless control stations have been established at PHQ, Harinivas and SSG Headquarter Gupkar, providing connectivity to different district headquarters, police stations and police posts. Connectivity has been provided to Technical Airport, Civil Airport and Nehru Helipad for operation of air sorties.
The meeting was also apprised that a Special Channel High Frequency (HF) link has been established with MHA New Delhi, connecting all District Superintendents of Police in the State. One to one communication established between PCR and Armed Police to coordinate the deployment of personnel in different affected areas. Satellite phones were installed to overcome the communication gap between police and civil administration authorities, caused by the heavy floods.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, SP Vaid and VK Singh, IGPs, AK Choudhary, HK Lohia and Deepak Kumar, DPT, Hilal Ahmed, AIG (Welfare), Rajeshwar Singh and other police officers.
