Rajiv Awas Yojana extended to all urban slum areas: Jora

JAMMU, Feb 16: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today informed the House that Rajiv Awas Yojana Scheme for development of slum areas has been extended by the Centre to all urban areas of the State, adding that the scheme would be implemented in phased manner.
Replying to a question by Nasir Aslam Wani, the Minister informed that Rajiv Awas Yojana was launched in the State during 2009-10 and during the preparatory phase in July 2013, the Union Ministry of Housing and Poverty Alleviation has approved implementation of the scheme in two capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, besides five towns of Kathua, Udhampur, Anantnag, Baramulla and Leh.
The Minister said that the survey for these towns stands completed except Baramulla town which is under progress. He said the detailed project reports for some slums in respect of these cities and towns have already been submitted to HUDCO for technical appraisal. He assured that all slum areas of Srinagar district would be covered under this scheme.
Irfan Shah raised supplementary question and demanded that all slums areas of his constituency be brought under the scheme for overall development of the inhabitants in these areas.
