Rajnath announces new team, Modi re-inducted in BJP parliamentary board

NEW DELHI :  Amid growing clamour for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to be projected as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general polls, party chief Rajnath Singh today brought back Mr Modi in parliamentary board, the highest decision making body of the party, after six years.
His induction in parliamentary board and central election committee of the BJP is being viewed as increasing influence of the Gujarat Chief Minister within the party.
Several senior leaders have demanded that Mr Modi be projected as the party’s PM candidate.
The announcement was made by the BJP president in a statement here.
Firebrand BJP leader Uma Bharti has been made vice-president while party’s youth leader Varun Gandhi has been appointed general secretary in the team of Mr Singh with which he will go in the next general elections.
Mr Modi’s growing influence in the party was witnessed in Mr Singh’s new team also as Amit Shah, a close associate of the Gujarat Chief Minister, has been appointed general secretary.
Mr Shah had to resign as Gujarat Home Minister after the CBI accused him of being involved in conspiracy to kill Sohrabuddin Sheikh in an alleged fake encounter.
The new BJP parliamentery board has 12 members: Rajnath Singh, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, M Venkeya Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitely, Narendra Modi, Anant Kumar, Thawar Chand Gehlot and Ram Lal.
Mr Singh’s new team also comprises 13 vice-presidents:
Sadananda Gowda, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, C P Thakur, Jual Urao, S S Ahluwalia, Balbir Punj, Satpal Malik, Prabhat Jha, Ms Uma Bharti, Ms Bijyo Chakravarti, Ms Lakxmikanta Chawla, Ms Kiran Maheshwari and Smriti Irani.
