Rajnath holds talks with NSA Ajit Doval

NEW DELHI, Aug 21:  Ahead of the NSA level talks between India and Pakistan, Home Minister Rajnath Singh today met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Mr Singh’s meeting with Mr Doval came even as the government made it clear to Pakistan that it should not go ahead with the meeting of its NSA Sartaz Aziz with Hurriyat representatives here when he comes to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval, saying it will not be “appropriate”.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said Pakistan was advised yesterday that the meeting of their NSA with Hurriyat leaders would be inappropriate and against the spirit of the Ufa agreement.
He said India had also sought confirmation of the agenda for talks between the two NSAs.
“India has advised Pakistan yesterday that it would not be appropriate for Mr Aziz to meet Hurriyat representatives during his visit to India as it would not be in keeping with the spirit and intent of the Ufa understanding to jointly work to combat terrorism,” Mr Swarup said.
”We have also sought confirmation of our understanding of the agenda for the NSA-level talks that was conveyed to the Pakistani side on August 18,” he said. (UNI)
