Rajnath speaks to pilots of crashed MiG 29 in Goa

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday expressed satisfaction that the two pilots of MiG 29K, a trainer aircraft of Navy, managed to eject safely when the aircraft crashed in Goa.
Mr Singh also spoke to the two pilots who showed presence of mind and ejected after the engine of the aircraft caught fire soon after taking off from INS Hansa at Dabolim.
Taking to micro- blogging site Twitter, Mr Singh said “Spoke to the pilots, Capt Mrigank and Deepak Yadav of the MiG-29K which crashed after the take-off from Goa today”.
“It is a matter of great satisfaction that they managed to eject in time and both of them are safe. I pray for their good health and well-being,” he further said in his tweet.
The Navy Spokesperson also said that the engine caught fire soon after taking off .
“During a training mission, after take off from INS HANSA at Dabolim, a Mig 29k trainer aircraft suffered an engine fire. The pilots Capt M Sheokh and and Lt Cdr Deepak Yadav ejected safely”, the Navy Spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal tweeted.
Timely action by pilot in pointing the aircraft away from the populated areas ensured safety of life on ground, he added . The plane crashed in an open field shortly after take-off. No injuries were reported.(AGENCIES)
