Rajnath summons high-level meet on Jammu and Kashmir

NEW DELHI:  Home Minister Rajnath Singh will today chair a high-level meeting, to be attended among others, by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to review situation in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the wake of attack on Amarnath pilgrims by the terrorists.

    Top officials of the Home Ministry, including the Home Secretary and from intelligence agencies and central paramilitary forces will attend the meeting, official sources said.

    The Centre has also decided to depute a high-level team led by Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahirto, to assess the security of the pilgrimage.

    Meanwhile, the Home Minister has sought detailed report from State Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

    Director General of CRPF R R Bhatnagar has already reached Srinagar, sources said.

      The State Governor is likely to review the deployment of Central forces in the pilgrimage route also with state officials and the CRPF chief.

   The State and Central Government agencies are also making arrangement for airlifting the bodies of the victims of the terror attack to Gujarat. Six women pilgrims and one man were killed in yesterday’s attack, when their bus was attacked in Anantnag district.

    The Amarnath Yatra is part of annual trip of the devotees to the high altitude cave shrine. (AGENCIES)
