Rajouri, Apr 14: A Rajouri based NGO, Sangharsh- a movement for justice, equality, peace and brotherhood celebrated Rajouri Day with great enthusiasm here today.
On the occasion, Vibodh Gupta, MLC was the chief guest while it was presided over by the general secretary of the NGO, Dr Suresh Kumar. The programme started with the lightening of traditional lamp followed by the National Anthem and the two- minute silence in the memory of the brave soldiers and the civilians who lost their lives while fighting with the Pakistani army. A number of cultural activities on patriotic theme were also presented by the students of different schools.
Speaking on the occasion Vibodh Gupta congratulated the organizers for celebrating this day with the civil society. He said that it is because of the scarifies of our great soldiers that we recaptured Rajouri and hence officially became the part of Indian dominion and owing to it, we the native of Rajouri are enjoying the provisions of Indian constitution. He also appealed to the public to observe this day with the same spirit like of January 26 and August 15.
Veteran social and political activist Kuldeep Raj Gupta recalled the memories of those days which have seen the bloodshed all over the area. He also threw light on the fact that how the people of the area maintained the communal harmony and bravely fought with the militants.
Dr Suresh Kumar expressed the commitment of the movement for making it a regular feature so that the feeling of nationalism and brotherhood can be inculcated among the young generation. Highlighting the previous activities and the aims and objectives of the movement, he said that today it’s a great day for us that we all gather here for recollecting the true brave stories which has enable us to be the part of this great nation.
April 13, keeps a great importance for the people of border district of Rajouri as on this very day in 1948 the whole area was recaptured by the Indian army from the Pakistan’s army and its sponsored terrorists outfits after a long fight of six months. It is recorded in the history that thousands of innocent civilians were murdered and killed by the Pakistani intruders and large number of women had committed suicide by jumping in a local pond to save their modesty.
Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion included Tazim Dar, Shafi Dar, Bharat Bhushan, Rajinder Gupta and Subash Sharma.
