Rajouri day celebrated with enthusiasm, fervour

Army men paying homage to martyrs at war memorial Rajouri on Saturday.

RAJOURI, Apr 13: Rajouri day was jointly celebrated with full enthusiasm and patriotic fervour by Ace of Spades Division, civil administration and the people of Rajouri at Gujjar Chowk War Memorial near ALG today.
On the occasion wreaths were laid on the war memorial of brave soldiers who laid down their lives in freeing Rajouri from Pak raiders. A peace march was taken out by students of various schools on the occasion.
The public gathering among others was addressed by Kuldeep Raj Gupta and Gulzar Ahmed Choudhary social workers. They highlighted the contribution of armed forces during 1947-48 conflict and also in the present time through Operation Sadbhavana.
They also highlighted the contribution of civil people in fighting the Pakistani raiders and safeguarding Rajouri during 1947-48 conflict.
On the occasion the children from various schools across the district presented patriotic songs and the programmes were appreciated by all present in the function.
Prizes to the winners for essay writing and painting competition held on April 10 at VVAPS Rajouri were distributed by the chief guest, Brig J K Tiwari. All the participants of cultural programme were presented with gift hampers and appreciation by the chief guest.
In his address the chief guest highlighted the importance of the day and exhorted all for a similar display of patriotism towards the nation even today. He stressed on the Army’s commitment towards creating long lasting peace in the State and lauded the border people for displaying high sense of patriotism and secularism during 1947-48 conflicts.
Brig Tiwari held an interaction with the locals and media persons. He informed regarding various ongoing projects undertaken by the Army through Operation Sadbhavana in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
The Rajouri was liberated on this day in 1948 by the troops of 1 Kumaon Regiment who along with tanks of Central India Horse and 5 Bombay Field Artillery Battery advanced to Rajouri form Chingus for its liberation on April 12, 1948 and since then the Rajouri day is every year celebrated.
