JAMMU, Nov 13: Former Minister and PCC general secretary Shabir Ahmed Khan has expressed concern over the neglect of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the recently announced Prime Minister’s package for the State, besides failure to address the commitment of grant of ST status to the Pahari speaking people of the State.
In a statement here, Mr Khan strongly criticized the BJP- led NDA Government and the PDP-BJP Government for total neglect of the border belt of Rajouri & Poonch in the package announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the State during his recent visit. He said that package totally ignored the developmental needs of this backward and border region in all spheres besides ignoring the demand of ST (Scheduled Tribe) status of the Pahari speaking people, who were promised grant of ST by the coalition partners in the State and reiterated in the agenda of alliance.
He said that Prime Minister’s package is an eye wash and has failed to address the genuine socio-political issues and the developmental, economic, employment needs of the youth especially of this border region, which is a matter of grave concern and has exposed the hollow claims of the BJP and PDP.
The Congress leader asked the people especially the youth to raise their voice against the failures of the present `Coalition’ to fulfill their commitments and meet the genuine needs of the area.
