Rajouri-Poonch NH blocked, restored

RAJOURI, Sept 17: Heavy rains today triggered a major landslide near Salani bridge, blocking the Rajouri-Poonch National Highway for at least 2 hours. However, the affected stretch was restored by the Highway authorities after pressing their men and machinery.
According to the reports, heavy rains lashed twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri for about five hours. The rain started at 2 pm and stopped at about 7 pm. Due to continuous heavy rain, a major landslide occurred near Salani bridge at about 4 pm, leading to closure of Rajouri-Poonch National Highway and long traffic snarls of both heavy and light motor vehicles.
However, no one was hurt in the landslide. The Highway authorities immediately pressed their men and machinery on job to clear the debris from the Highway and after hard work of about 2 hours, the Highway was restored completely. Stranded vehicles on the Highway were being cleared when the last reports came in.
