JAMMU, Sept 6: Yuva Rajput Sabha today suspended its 14-day long chain hunger strike and agitation on the assurance of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar.
Talking to media-persons here today, president of the Sabha Rajan Singh Happy said that Yuva Rajput Sabha launched intensive agitation and chain- hunger strike, demanding holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh on Sept 23.

He disclosed that on Monday, the Divisional Administration Jammu called urgent meeting with the Yuva Rajput Sabha members which was attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa, ADC Law and Order, Menga Sherpa and SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli.
The Administration assured that the process of filing of report by the Committee constituted for giving its recommendations on the subject has been forwarded to the office of Lt Governor and it was under active consideration of the Government. The Divisional Commissioner gave positive assurance on the outcome of the proposal being sent to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. The Administration requested the Sabha to suspend chain hunger strike and agitation, for helping Government to maintain law and order and peaceful atmosphere in Jammu.
In view of the assurance and after thoroughly discussing the matter in an emergency meeting of the Sabha held late last evening, the Yuva Rajput Sabha decided to suspend agitation/ chain hunger strike for one week. Singh said, if the Administration fails to fulfill its commitment, the Yuva Rajput Sabha will again resume the agitation and for any law and order problem , the LG’s administration will be responsible.
Sabha said entire Dogra community wants holiday on Sept 23 and many organizations have been supporting this common cause. Sabha also extended gratitude to various political parties, social, trade, students organizations, besides Bar Association Jammu, J&K Transport Welfare Association and Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry for rendering support to the agitation for holiday on Maharaja’s birthday.
